Product Description
Right2Sight is an Android application that empowers visually impaired people by providing easy access to smartphone users to perform their day to day activities, such as making calls, managing contacts, sending messages, using utilities such as clock, battery power, ringing options and profile etc. The access is eased through the voice messages and the braille input which are very convenient to visually impaired people.
There are 200,000 people in Sri Lanka who believed to be blind and another 400,000 are having low vision. Further, the population of Sri Lanka is rapidly aging and diseases which affect vision are also increasing. On the other hand, according to IDC in early 2015, 22% of mobile phone users in Sri Lanka are smartphone users and the percentage must be very high as of now.This has been successfully tested at a Nuffield center, Kaithaddy and the user experience of the app has been improved based on the feedbacks received from the visually impaired people. This will work with Android version 4.4 or above, which are the versions widely used among smart phones today.
Jurors’ Evaluation
The software product was very focused on catering to a specific need of a specific sector in the community, which was excluded from reaping the benefits of digital advancement. Being mobile and have been tested made the submission a much more feasible solution with higher probability of success. Therefore, the jurors were of the view that the submission deserves to be awarded as a Winner in this category.
