This application facilitates Sri Lankans (living in Sri Lanka or overseas) to experience the “Vesak Thorana” on any device, anywhere in the world.Sri Lanka is the only country in the world which speaks the language ‘Sinhala’ and Vesak is an auspicious festival for Buddhists living all over the world. Due to the civil war, many Sri Lankans have migrated to different parts of the world and during the month of May, they tend to miss out on the popular ‘Vesak Thorana’, which is a colourful display throughout the country.Lotus Technologies has addressed this particular issue of our Sri Lankan family living all around the world by giving them a virtual and real time experience via our ‘Digital Vesak Thorana’. The Digital Vesak Thorana also has additional features such as 'Vesak e-cards' and the 'Dhamma Padaya' quotes.
Furthermore, they have also launched a virtual ‘Sinhala Avurudu Portal’, which creates a platform for Sri Lankans to engage in traditional ‘Avurudu Games’, information on auspicious times, the ‘Litha’ and more importantly videos and recipes of preparing traditional ‘Avurudu Sweetmeats’. In addition to that they have offered the Tamil community the first ever digital portal for ‘Deepawali’, which is a very significant festival for our Hindu brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka. ‘E-Cards’ feature is a highlight of the portal which recorded over 300,000 users.
This site promotes the Vesak Thorana, Avurudu and Deepawali festivals, which are part of the culture of this great nation. They have brought sub-cultures of their own that would be prevailing during these festive periods of each year. In an era of fast change, that affects the cultural values of which this nation is built upon, it is required to preserve these sub-cultures for the future generations. This attempt to provide a glimpse of these sub-cultures in a user friendly and interest generating ways needs the commendation.
